Types of Coffees: More than you can Imagine!

When thought about what makes a 'Coffee', what first comes in mind normally, only consist of:

"Hot/Ice water, brewed espresso, sugar and milk maybe."

Such image of a cup of 'Coffee' remain a pathetic picture, which shocked us coffee-lovers a lot. As being one of the most popular drinks known worldwide, it was quite saddening to know about how little knowledge normal people can have regarding to a type of beverage/drink. To make a contrast, majority of us would know the ingredients of any soft drinks or juices etc. So when we can know about the details of the average  CO2 and percentage of sugar contained in a can of Coke, why not the specific layers of magic in a cup of Coffee?

A brief chart of the Standard types of Coffees.

.... Head-spinning much? x)

These are actually JUST the Standard Types of Coffees, a narrowed down version, excluding the Ice-blended category.

We actually have MORE Branched out types of coffees for each 9 of them!

As seen from above, we can see the slight differences between the names, like adding 'Macchiato' or 'con Panna' in the Espresso, and 'Caffe' and Lattes in the similarities.

These words are practically italian words, which means:

'Macchiato' = Stained/marked', 'con Panna' = with Cream.

So with the word meaning, we know that Espresso Macchiato (aka Cafe Macchiato) means "Espresso with stained milk" and Espresso con Panna means "Espresso with cream".

So it's not unusual to see someone ordering the wrong coffee, since they did not notice the difference between the italian words, or rather, ignoring them; by only focusing on the word 'Espresso'.

I guess that's all for this post, since I might be explaining more about the branched out and other categories in the upcoming post.
